Sherkala Mountain is an unusually shaped mountain located approximately 94 km northeast of Aktau, 18 km from the village of Shetpe. The mountain is 307 meters high (332 meters above sea level) and is composed of layers of clay, limestone, and chalk.
Surrounding Sherkala are a scattering of spherical boulders—concretions of varying sizes. Many have cracked in the wind. Other small concretions lie broken, revealing traces of shells or fish.
