Chimborazo is a stratovolcano in Ecuador. Its last known eruption is believed to have occurred around AD 550. Chimborazo’s elevation is 6,263 meters. Chimborazo is located in the Ecuadorian Andes, 150 kilometers south of Quito, on the «avenue of volcanoes.» The nearest cities are Riobamba, Ambato, and Guaranda. Chimborazo is part of the Cordillera Occidental range in the Ecuadorian Andes. Chimborazo’s summit is completely covered by glaciers, some of which descend to an altitude of 4,600 meters.
