Kulsary is a town and the center of the Zhylyoi District in the Atyrau Region of western Kazakhstan. Population: 51,097; 38,518. The city is located 11 kilometers from the Emba River, and 230 kilometers from the city of Atyrau, the center of the Atyrau Region. The railroad station is on the Makat-Beyneu line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1937 as an oil workers’ settlement in connection with the discovery of large oil and gas reserves. Development of the field began in 1938-1940. In 1941, a workers’ settlement. Since 1954, the district center. In 1986, an accident occurred at the Tengiz field, which required the use of an underground nuclear explosion to eliminate it. Later, the city of Kulsary became the oil city of Kazakhstan<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city is home to the mining of petroleum and a scrap metal processing plant. It also has a most remarkable cemetery made up of domed chambers large enough to be houses. Railway station on the Makat – Beyneu line. Oil production is carried out in Kulsary: the Ayrankol oil field is located 40 km west of the city. According to data from the mid-2000s, the Tenizmunaigaz enterprise, the Kulsara oil and gas department, the regional department of the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline, a large oil base and others operated in the city.
